Followers on our social media account will have noticed that last week we were in London at the New Designers show. Each year, the UK’s top design graduates from leading creative courses, come together to celebrate their graduate projects. Over the two week period, New Designers showcases the latest design-thinking in textiles & fashion, ceramics & jewellery, product & furniture or animation & graphic design.

Diana has always championed emerging talent and for years we have visited the degree shows meeting the designers, talking through their work and choosing 5 designers to showcase in our gallery in our own New Designers exhibition. This was always Dianas’ favourite exhibition to curate, so full of creativity and energy and a tangible way to support new artists and provide exposure for their work.

This year we were delighted to support New Designers this year as part of their ND AWARDS programme. Out of what was an outstanding year for contemporary craftsmanship, we chose Amy Findlay and her collection of bejewelled slugs as our winner. The prize consists of £500 in cash, two exclusive mentoring sessions, and the chance to be exhibited in the Diana Porter Gallery.

We contacted Amy shortly after the exhibition for her feedback and this is what she had to say;

 "To win the Diana Porter Jewellery Associate Prize was an incredible experience. In memory of the late Diana Porter I am filled with gratitude to receive this award. A designer I have always loved and admired, spreading positivity through her jewellery. Diana was an inspiration to young people, raising awareness for women’s rights and promoting equality throughout her life. I  cannot wait to work with the team at Diana Porter to further my jewellery knowledge and skill set. Meeting and talking to the team about my work was exciting and I felt a connection between designers. I am grateful for this for the special award in memory of Diana Porter.”
