Sam Ritte
Constructed from over twenty individual screws found in his Bristol allotment, Sam has forged these screws into different components to mimic plants he often sees growing in the most unlikely places: cracks in the paths, garden walls and between buildings to name a few.
The Ferrous Flower brooch is a metaphor for growth in trying times, like the plants that inspired it. Sam wanted to highlight the unassuming beauty and celebrate the perseverance in these common plants. Using once discarded screws to further this metaphor and question our perceived value on materials that is ever shifting in the throw away society
