Hand-sculpted in sterling silver and inspired by the powerful archetypal forms of Cycladic female figures, the piece was then soldered shut and inflated with fire. The trapped air expands with heat to swell the metal from within, almost pushing it to breaking point.

Hand-sculpted in sterling silver and inspired by the powerful archetypal forms of Cycladic female figures, the piece was then soldered shut and inflated with fire. The trapped air expands with heat to swell the metal from within, almost pushing it to breaking point.
The work draws from Bristol’s iconic hot air balloons, symbols of lift, beauty and collective wonder. But it also speaks to another kind of inflation: rising costs, rising rents and rising pressure. In a city known for its creativity and community, these forces are pushing out the very people who give Bristol its spirit.
This piece becomes a body lifted by the same forces that threaten to distort it.
