Lucie Gledhill

Lucie deliberately uses a low-tech approach to making using precious metals, predominantly wire and favouring techniques such as weaving wire and making chain, both repetitive processes that require a sedentary making stance. She has recently incorporated coloured diamonds into her work adding a design element to the process.

Inspired by myth, the rope chain collection has, as a sculptural object, a huge continuous silver rope chain with no beginning and no end. An eternal unending task represented by a never-ending rope. Or something functional and ubiquitous being rendered precious and useless by the material. Lucie likes the paradox of an object something which holds in it many contradictions and leaves you thinking.

Whilst not everything she makes is wearable, all her work relates to the body. If jewellery is an attitude, it is an attention towards the detail in things.
