Referencing both Banksy’s portrait and Johannes Vermeer’s iconic “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, the piece explores the relationship between contemporary street art and classical painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLabradorite stones were selected for their shifting appearance; although dark grey at first glance, they reveal flashes of iridescent blue when they catch the light, echoing the rich blue tones found in Vermeer’s painting. The sand-cast silver elements reference the rough texture of the dockside wall onto which Banksy stencilled his image, bringing traces of the urban environment into the work.
